Dr. Ignacio Rua is a partner and vascular and general surgeon at Radiology Associates of South Florida. He also serves as an advanced trauma life-support instructor. Prior to joining RASF, he held a similar position at the Surgical Group of Miami from 1995 to 2006. Dr. Rua also served as vascular surgery section chief at Baptist Hospital.
He earned a bachelor of arts in physics from Bowdoin College in 1985 before attending Cornell University Medical College in 1989. During his studies, he also took part in an abroad program at La Universidad de Los Andes in Bogota, Colombia. Dr. Rua did his general surgery internship and residency at University of Rochester/Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was chief surgery resident. Dr. Rua completed two fellowships: the Hepatobiliary Fellowship at Hospital Doce de Octubre in Madrid, Spain; and, a vascular surgery fellowship at Pennsylvania Hospital. He has won several awards, including the University of Miami Livingston Award for Excellence in Surgical Teaching in 2002.
