RASF is unique in being able to support three world-class training programs. We currently have an AGCME-accredited fellowship in interventional radiology and a fellowship in neurointerventional radiology, both headquartered at Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute (MCVI), a world-famous institution known for its innovation in endovascular care and diagnosis and for its outstanding clinician-educators.

Beginning in July 2012, we are also proud to offer a fellowship in Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging, for expertise in cardiac CTA, cardiac MR and MRA, and nuclear cardiology with the ability to correlate with catheter angiography and echocardiography.

RASF is proud to share its knowledge and help train the next generation of subspecialist radiologists.

Vascular and Interventional Radiology Fellowship

The Vascular and Interventional Radiology Fellowship at Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute (previously known as Miami Vascular Institute) provides a unique opportunity for fellows to develop into a true clinical interventionalist. Our accredited fellowship provides a comprehensive experience in non-invasive vascular diagnosis, vascular intervention, and non-vascular image guided intervention. Having been established in July 1, 1989, The Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute recently celebrated its 20th year anniversary in 2009.

Mission of Fellowship

The mission of the MCVI fellowship is to train fellows to be the most well rounded, the most clinically competent and the most technically advanced physicians in the United States and to prepare them to enter an interventional radiology practice on equal grounds with other specialists.

Why Do Your Fellowship at Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute?

  • Your fellowship will be served under a group of full-time interventional radiologists whose collective experience and knowledge will serve to benefit you directly. In addition, you will have significant interaction with our vascular surgeons, oncologists, nephrologists, urologists, and other clinicians to solidify your clinical knowledge and experience.
  • The program is blessed with a very large volume of vascular and interventional material, including significant exposure to peripheral vascular disease and oncologic interventions.
  • In addition to the extensive experience in vascular disease, you will get a very strong experience in interventional oncology. We sponsor the Symposium on Clinical Interventional Oncology meeting in Miami Beach every January, which is the first meeting of its kind to show live cases in the field of IO. You will participate in this conference and present live cases to an international audience. We have a rapidly growing radioembolization program (with both Sirsphere and Therasphere), a tumor ablation program (using radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation, and microwave ablation), and chemoembolization program. You will also participate in biliary interventions for malignancy and pre-op portal vein embolization. You will leave here with a solid experience in both peripheral vascular disease and interventional oncology, which is not commonly seen in many other interventional fellowships.
  • The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredits this program. It is a subspecialty radiology training program under the parent radiology training program of the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa, Florida. The successful completion of this program will qualify you to sit for the American Board of Radiology's subspecialty examination for Added Qualifications in Vascular and Interventional Radiology (CAQ).
  • The MCVI fellowship prepares you for any type of career that you desire. Graduates have become renowned physicians in academics and research as well as leaders in community hospitals.
  • You will acquire more patient management skills in this fellowship than in any other in the country.
  • There is ample opportunity for you to participate actively in research. We have over twenty ongoing clinical research trials involving aortic aneurysms, erectile dysfunction, carotid artery disease, peripheral artery disease, interventional oncology, and neurovascular disease. (Please put a link here to our ongoing research trials)
  • You will attend and perform live cases for the annual ISET meeting (International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy) and CIO meeting (Symposium on Clinical Interventional Oncology). In addition, if selected as a fellow, you will have the opportunity to attend the ISET/CIO meeting the year prior to your fellowship as part of an all expense paid trip.
  • We have one of the best facilities in the world in which you will serve your fellowship year.

Fellowship Positions

  • Four ACGME accredited vascular and interventional fellowship positions are available each year
  • One neurointerventional fellowship position is available each year
