Dr. Balkissoon is a partner with the Radiology Associates of South Florida and serves as the director of musculoskeletal imaging. He currently is an attending at the Baptist Hospital of Miami, South Miami Hospital, Homestead Hospital, and the Baptist Outpatient Centers. Prior to joining Radiology Associates of South Florida, Dr. Balkissoon completed a second fellowship in nuclear medicine at the Medical College of Virginia. 

He has published several papers as well as contributed to textbooks and journals, mainly concerning orthopedic and sports medicine imaging. Paper topics include MR imaging of traumatic closed injuries of the biceps brachii muscle in military parachutists; bowstring injuries of the flexor tendon pulley system; MR Imaging; MRI shoulder arthrography; technique and spectrum of pathology; MRI of cartilage; current concepts in pelvic imaging; imaging techniques in rheumatic diseases; and safety and medico-legal implications of intra-articular gadolinium. He has also presented on topics including magnetic resonance arthrography of the shoulder and radiology of synovial spaces and vacuum phenomenon in musculoskeletal radiology. 

Dr. Balkissoon completed his MD from the University of the West Indies, Faculty of Medicine, Jamaica, followed by an internship as well as House staff positions in orthopedics and general surgery. He subsequently entered the radiology residency programs at St. George’s Hospital, London, and was inducted as a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologist in 1991. He was senior registrar in diagnostic radiology at the Royal Free Hospital, London, until 1993 when he moved to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor for a one-year musculoskeletal radiology fellowship. Dr. Balkissoon then joined the staff of the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University as an assistant professor in musculoskeletal imaging, where he performed consultancy to orthopedic, sport medicine and rheumatology subspecialists, in addition to training radiology, orthopedic residents, medical students, and performing clinical research.
