Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute

Founded in 1987, Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute was one of the first places in the United States to bring together the perspectives of several healthcare specialties to treat problems within the heart and blood vessels. Now that this approach is being adopted nationwide, the Institute maintains its extraordinary position in cardiovascular medicine with innovative techniques, new technologies, advanced research and an international focus. Co-founded by Barry Katzen, an RASF radiologist, MCVI comprises eight state-of-the-art angiography suites, hosts a world-famous annual conference, the International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy (ISET, www.iset.org), and is one of the nation’s leaders in endovascular and percutaneous diagnosis and therapy.

Florida International University (FIU) Wertheim School of Medicine

RASF is proud to serve as the clinical faculty for the FIU School of Medicine Department of Radiology. The inaugural class of FIU medical students is currently in its third year of medical school, scheduled to graduate in May of 2013. As third and fourth year medical students, FIU medical students will receive didactic lectures from RASF radiologists on the FIU medical campus, and they will also travel to RASF sites to participate in clinical rotations in radiology. Our subspecialist radiologists are training the next generation of physicians right here in South Florida.

University of South Florida (USF) College of Medicine

Our interventional radiologists have a special partnership with the University of South Florida (USF) College of Medicine. They are on faculty at the USF College of Medicine, and they also offer a world-renowned radiology fellowship in interventional radiology at the Baptist Cardiac and Vascular Institute under the academic auspices of USF.

American College of Radiology (ACR)

Founded in 1924, less than 30 years after the discovery of x-rays by Wilhelm Roentgen, the American College of Radiology is the umbrella organization for radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, interventional radiologists and nuclear medicine physicians. The ACR offers programs in all modalities now mandated for accreditation under the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) (CT, MRI, breast MRI, nuclear medicine and PET) as well as under the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA). The ACR accredits hospital and outpatient facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of their practice. We are proud to serve ACR-accredited facilities. Our president, Ricardo Cury, is also proud to be the ACR course director of cardiac and peripheral vascular MR education. http://www.acr.org/EducationCenter/ACRFutureClassroom/details-cardmri.aspx

American Board of Radiology (ABR)

Founded in 1932, the American Board of Radiology (ABR) is the specialty board of diagnostic radiology as part of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). In addition to the ABMS, the ABR maintains open working relationships with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the Residency Review Committees for Diagnostic Radiology and Radiation Oncology. The Board continues active interaction with its sponsoring organizations, other medical specialty boards, specialty societies, medical societies, residency program directors, chairmen of hospital departments, diplomates of this board, and the entire radiologic community. RASF radiologists are board-certified by the ABR, and several RASF radiologists make an annual trip to Louisville, Kentucky, to serve as board examiners for the oral board examinations required of all radiologists upon finishing training. The honor of being invited to examine for the oral boards is reserved for only the brightest lights in the field of radiology, and we are proud to claim some of them as our own.
