Joanna N. Tewfik, DO
Imaging Director, Davie Baptist Medical Plaza
Dr. Tewfik was born in Boston, MA and raised in southern NJ. She is a dedicated women’s imaging specialist performing breast biopsies and reading mammography, breast ultrasound, MRI, and PEM at Baptist Outpatient Center and South Miami Women’s Center. She previously served as a clinical instructor at the University of Virginia.
Her research projects have focused on detecting cancer using MRI, PET, and other advanced imaging modalities. Further research publications by Dr. Tewfik can be found through the American College of Radiology’s web site.
Dr. Tewfik earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey after receiving a bachelor’s degree in biology from Rutgers University. She completed internships at Westchester General Hospital in Miami and completed residency at the University of Pennsylvania Health System’s Pennsylvania Hospital before serving a fellowship in breast imaging at the University of Virginia.
Dr. Tewfik’s care philosophy is to provide a more comprehensive approach to overall wellness. She believes that breast wellness may get you in the door to see her, but she would love for you to stay and discuss what other tools we can use for overall health. There is a world of knowledge and information to improve physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness.
Dr. Tewfik prefers to view medicine as a collaboration with the patient, not necessarily that she is “treating” them. She is of the philosophy that she is learning right along with them. She has an Ashtanga yoga asana practice that she enjoys almost daily prior to the sunrise and also practices Vedic meditation twice a day.
