Marlene Carbonell, DO
Marlene Carbonell is a board certified radiologist by ACR in diagnostic radiology with a subspecialty in women’s imaging/ultrasound. She served as an attending radiologist at Mt Sinai Medical Center and was head of women’s ultrasound for its radiology residency program. She is currently a radiologist with RASF in the Baptist Medical System.
Dr. Carbonell began her medical career as a registered nurse, earning a RN certification at Youngstown State University in Ohio while on a full academic scholarship. She later completed her bachelor’s degree in liberal studies at Florida International University. She earned her DO from NOVA Southeastern University followed by residency at Mt. Sinai where she served as chief radiology resident. In the last year of residency she received the award for the best Fourth year residents’ Case presentation/ Symposium. Subsequently, she obtained a fellowship in ultrasound and women’s imaging at Mt. Sinai Ultrasound department and comprehensive Cancer Center through the IVOR Fix Fellow in Breast Imaging Foundation Grant.
While working at Mt. Sinai, she was awarded the 2006 Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching. At Mt. Sinai she developed and instituted a program to have thyroid biopsy procedures performed within the ultrasound department. She has conducted research in thyroid imaging, ectopic pregnancies, and during her residency Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia and Vater Syndrome.
She now lectures radiology residents from Mt. Sinai and JMH at Mt Sinai in preparation for the oral boards ultrasound section, and also lectures for the Sonography Society of S. FL.
